The NEW GI Bill Summary
The Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 or "New GI Bill"
has been enacted into law. You are eligible if you served a minimum of 90 days
on active duty after September 10, 2001. This covers active duty time served as
a member of the Armed Forces or as a result of a call or order to active duty
from a reserve component (National Guard and Reserve) under certain sections of
title 10.
This is different from the GI Bill you elected to put money into upon entering
the military. This benefit will pay up to 100% tuition, BAH (equivalent to E-5
with dependents for the zip code of the school) and up to $1000.00 a year for
books and supplies. It does not start until 1 August
2009 and you have to go to school full time in a traditional classroom setting,
no online courses.
